๐ January 23 โ The Hour of Judgment
Monthly theme: The Blessed Hope โ Living in Expectation
Theme for 2026: โSoon the King Is Coming โ Hope Beyond the Endโ
๐ Central Bible Text of the Day
โFear God and give glory to Him,
for the hour of His judgment has come.
And worship Him who made heaven and earth, the sea and springs of water.โ
โ Revelation 14:7
๐ Devotional of the Day
The words, โThe hour of His judgment has come,โ
proclaim a seriousโbut also hopefulโtruth.
Judgment is not a threat,
but part of the gospelโ
the revelation of Godโs righteousness and grace.
Judgment shows
that God does not leave this worldโs history to chance,
but brings it to completion in love, truth, and justice.
โFor God will bring every work into judgment,
including every secret thing, whether good or evil.โ
โ Ecclesiastes 12:14
This judgment is not to inform God,
but to show all creation
that His verdict is just and perfect.
โจ The Heavenly Judgment Has Begun
According to the witness of prophecy, the investigative judgment in heaven began
after the end of the 2,300 evenings and morningsโthus in the year 1844 (Daniel 8:14).
Since then, Christ, as our High Priest, examines the heavenly records
in order to vindicate those who believe in Him.
โFor we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses,
but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin.โ
โ Hebrews 4:15
Christ is not only Judge,
but also Advocate and Intercessor.
He pleads for us with His own blood.
Ellen G. White wrote:
โIn the heavenly council chamber Christ stands
to serve as our Advocate.
There He shows His pierced hands before the Father
and says, โI know them by name; I have redeemed them.โโ
(The Great Controversy, p. 482)
Therefore, judgment is not a threat to the believer,
but a divine assurance:
Christ is our Defender.
๐ฟ A Judgment of Grace and Truth
Many fear judgment,
but the one who knows Christ
finds hope in it.
For judgment is not meant for condemnation,
but for the revelation of truth.
โThere is therefore now no condemnation
to those who are in Christ Jesus.โ
โ Romans 8:1
Judgment reveals
who truly lives by faithโ
not through outward works,
but through a relationship with Christ,
whose fruit is obedience and love.
Ellen White explained:
โIn the judgment the question is not what a person has professed,
but what he has done.
Works testify whether the faith was genuine.โ
(The Great Controversy, p. 482)
Judgment is Godโs confirmation
of what has taken place in the heart.
๐๏ธ The End of Judgment โ The Beginning of Glory
Soon the heavenly investigation will be completed.
Then Christ will speak the words, โIt is done.โ (Revelation 16:17)
Probation will close,
and the righteous will be sealed for eternity.
โAnd behold, I am coming quickly,
and My reward is with Me,
to give to everyone according to his work.โ
โ Revelation 22:12
Ellen White writes:
โWhen the work of investigation is finished,
Christ will come to reward those who have been faithful.
Then every decision will be justified,
and the universe will cry: โJust and true are Your ways, Lord!โโ
(The Great Controversy, p. 489)
Judgment does not lead into darkness,
but into the light of eternal life.
๐ Prayer
Righteous and merciful God,
thank You that You are both Judge and Savior.
I place my life into Your hands.
Examine me, cleanse me,
and write my name in Your book of life.
Help me remain faithful
until the work of judgment is finished
and the day of Your return dawns.
Amen.
๐ญ Thought for the Day
โJudgment is not a time of fear for those
who have found their refuge in Christ.
In Him the sinner stands righteous before God.โ
โ Ellen G. White, Maranatha, p. 372
๐ก Personal Application
Read Daniel 7:9โ14 and Revelation 14:6โ7.
Consider how righteousness and grace are united in the heavenly judgment.
Pray: โLord, examine my heart and renew my faith.โ
Practical:
Live today with intentional honesty and clarityโ
in thoughts, words, and actionsโ
as someone who walks before God.
๐บ Closing Verse
โI watched till thrones were put in place,
and judgment was committed to them.โ
โ Revelation 20:4
