๐Ÿ‘‘ The King Is Coming Soon โ€“ Hope Beyond the End

๐Ÿ“… 8 January โ€“ Sanctification and Character Formation

Monthly Theme: The Blessed Hope โ€“ Living in Expectation
Theme for 2026: โ€œThe King Is Coming Soon โ€“ Hope Beyond the Endโ€

๐Ÿ“– Central Bible Text of the Day

โ€œAnd everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself, just as He is pure.โ€
โ€” 1 John 3:3

๐ŸŒ… Devotional Thought for the Day

The expectation of Jesusโ€™ return is not merely a doctrineโ€”it is a way of life.
Those who believe in the Lordโ€™s soon return feel the desire to live a holy life.
Not out of fear, but out of love.

โ€œFor this is the will of God, your sanctification.โ€
โ€” 1 Thessalonians 4:3

Sanctification does not mean becoming flawless,
but becoming more closely connected with Christ.
It is a daily growth in grace, a continual shaping of character in the light of heaven.

Ellen G. White wrote:
โ€œSanctification is not the work of a moment, but of a lifetime.
It is the daily dying to self and the daily living for Christ.โ€

(Steps to Christ, p. 85)

โœจ The Hope That Purifies

John connects hope with purity.
The hope of Christโ€™s return is like a purifying fire:
it burns away indifference, pride, and selfishness.

โ€œBeloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be,
but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is.โ€

โ€” 1 John 3:2

If we truly desire to see Him,
the longing to become like Him will grow.
This desire is the beginning of all true sanctification.

Ellen White wrote:
โ€œThe expectation of Christโ€™s coming should lead every believer
to examine the heart and cleanse the life.
Only those who become more like Christ can stand when He appears.โ€

(Christโ€™s Object Lessons, p. 413)

๐ŸŒฟ Character โ€“ the Only Thing We Take With Us

Character is the only thing we take into eternity.
Everything elseโ€”possessions, status, powerโ€”remains behind.
That is why sanctification is not optional,
but preparation for eternal life.

โ€œLet this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus.โ€
โ€” Philippians 2:5

Ellen White emphasizes:
โ€œChrist is waiting with longing desire for the manifestation of Himself in His church.
When the character of Christ shall be perfectly reproduced in His people,
then He will come to claim them as His own.โ€

(Christโ€™s Object Lessons, p. 69)

Sanctification, therefore, is not withdrawal,
but a light in a dark world.
A pure heart loves more deeply, forgives more quickly, and serves more selflessly.

๐Ÿ•Š๏ธ Grace That Transforms

Sanctification is not human effort, but divine grace in action.

โ€œFor it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure.โ€
โ€” Philippians 2:13

Ellen White explains:
โ€œMany struggle to become holy without grasping the hand of the Redeemer.
But sanctification is the result of Christ abiding in the heart.โ€

(Steps to Christ, p. 87)

The secret of growth lies not in striving,
but in constant connection with the Sourceโ€”Jesus.
The closer we are to Him, the more our lives reflect His love.

๐Ÿ™ Prayer

Holy Father,
You have called us to holiness, not to fear.

Cleanse my heart,
so that I may await the hope of Your return with joy.

Teach me to grow daily,
step by step, through Your grace and power.

Form the character of Christ within me,
so that I may walk in His light until I see Him.

Amen.

๐Ÿ’ญ Thought for the Day

โ€œPreparation for the coming of Christ consists in allowing Christ to dwell within.
When He lives in us, our lives become a reflection of His purity and love.โ€

โ€” Ellen G. White, Maranatha, p. 75

๐Ÿ’ก Personal Application

  1. Read Colossians 3:1โ€“17 today.
Which qualities of Christ do you want to cultivate intentionally this year?

  2. Pray:
โ€œLord, shape Your image in meโ€”step by step.โ€

  3. Practical step:
Do one small act today that reflects the character of Jesusโ€”
speak kindly, wait patiently, forgive sincerely.

๐ŸŒบ Closing Verse

โ€œNow may the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely;
and may your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless
at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.โ€

โ€” 1 Thessalonians 5:23
