¹ And there came one of the seven angels which had the seven vials, and talked with me, saying unto me, Come hither; I will shew unto thee the judgment of the great whore that sitteth upon many waters:

² With whom the kings of the earth have committed fornication, and the inhabitants of the earth have been made drunk with the wine of her fornication.

³ So he carried me away in the spirit into the wilderness: and I saw a woman sit upon a scarlet coloured beast, full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns.

⁴ And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet colour, and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and filthiness of her fornication:

⁵ And upon her forehead was a name written, Mystery, Babylon The Great, The Mother Of Harlots And Abominations Of The Earth.

⁶ And I saw the woman drunken with the blood of the saints, and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus: and when I saw her, I wondered with great admiration.

⁷ And the angel said unto me, Wherefore didst thou marvel? I will tell thee the mystery of the woman, and of the beast that carrieth her, which hath the seven heads and ten horns.

⁸ The beast that thou sawest was, and is not; and shall ascend out of the bottomless pit, and go into perdition: and they that dwell on the earth shall wonder, whose names were not written in the book of life from the foundation of the world, when they behold the beast that was, and is not, and yet is.

⁹ And here is the mind which hath wisdom. The seven heads are seven mountains, on which the woman sitteth.

¹⁰ And there are seven kings: five are fallen, and one is, and the other is not yet come; and when he cometh, he must continue a short space.

¹¹ And the beast that was, and is not, even he is the eighth, and is of the seven, and goeth into perdition.

¹² And the ten horns which thou sawest are ten kings, which have received no kingdom as yet; but receive power as kings one hour with the beast.

¹³ These have one mind, and shall give their power and strength unto the beast.

¹⁴ These shall make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them: for he is Lord of lords, and King of kings: and they that are with him are called, and chosen, and faithful.

¹⁵ And he saith unto me, The waters which thou sawest, where the whore sitteth, are peoples, and multitudes, and nations, and tongues.

¹⁶ And the ten horns which thou sawest upon the beast, these shall hate the whore, and shall make her desolate and naked, and shall eat her flesh, and burn her with fire.

¹⁷ For God hath put in their hearts to fulfil his will, and to agree, and give their kingdom unto the beast, until the words of God shall be fulfilled.

¹⁸ And the woman which thou sawest is that great city, which reigneth over the kings of the earth.

🔵 Introduction

Revelation 17 portrays in vivid symbolism “Babylon the Great,” the prostitute seated on a scarlet beast, representing the nexus of religious seduction and political power arrayed against God and His people. The language echoes Old Testament prophecies (e.g., Ezekiel 16; Jeremiah 51) about Israel’s apostasy and Babylon’s fall. Yet in the end, it is not the forces of evil that prevail but the victory of the Lamb, Jesus Christ.

🟡 Commentary

1. The Great Prostitute on the Beast (vv. 1–6)

   • The woman sits on “many waters” (peoples), richly dressed, holding a cup of abominations—symbolizing a false religious system aligned with worldly powers.

   • Drunken with the blood of the saints—indicative of persecution of true believers.

2. The Angel’s Interpretation (vv. 7–13)

   • The beast “was, is not, and is to come” denotes successive world empires.

   • The seven heads are seven mountains (power centers) and seven kings (rulers), five fallen, one present, and one future.

   • The ten horns are ten future kings who align with the beast to oppose the Lamb.

3. The Decisive Conflict: The Lamb’s Victory (v. 14)

   • Although these powers wage war on the Lamb, He conquers them—His victory rests on His lordship and the faithfulness of His followers.

4. Babylon’s Destruction by Its Allies (vv. 15–18)

   • The very political kings who supported the prostitute turn against her, devouring and burning her—symbol of God’s judgment.

   • “The great city” signifies the global anti-God system’s center of power.

Revelation 17 unmasks the spiritual and political corruption of Babylon—the archetype of every false religious system in league with worldly powers. 🔵 Introduction

Doubt is one of the subtlest and most dangerous weapons of the enemy in the great battle for the human mind. Especially young believers and seekers are vulnerable to thoughts that aim to shake their trust in God’s Word and character.

Yet this chapter shows clearly:
🔹 God does not demand blind faith,
🔹 but offers abundant evidence,
🔹 while still calling for faith, trust, and spiritual humility.

The truth remains hidden only from those who refuse to seek it—and is continually revealed by the Holy Spirit to honest seekers.

🟡 Commentary

🔹 1. The Origin of Doubt (Paras. 1–2)
Many experience doubt when encountering difficult Bible passages.
Satan uses these moments to shake our faith.
But: God has given us sufficient foundations for belief—doubt persists only if we choose to cultivate it.

🔹 2. The Limitations of Human Understanding (Paras. 3–6)
We cannot fully comprehend the essence and work of the infinite God.
Passages like Job 11:7–8, Romans 11:33, and Psalm 97:2 demonstrate that God’s greatness surpasses human knowledge.
There are mysteries (e.g., the origin of sin, the incarnation, the resurrection) that do not undermine Scripture’s divine origin but confirm it.

🔹 3. The Divine Origin of the Bible (Paras. 7–10)
Even the simplest truths exceed our research yet are accessible to all.
Scripture speaks to both heart and mind.
Its depth and simplicity together testify to its inspiration by God.

🔹 4. Proper Handling of Difficult Passages (Paras. 11–14)
Peter warns against twisting hard texts (2 Peter 3:16).
Not everything attributed to the Bible actually comes from it.
Pride, impatience, and the desire for total control keep many from understanding.

🔹 5. Faith Grows through Humility (Paras. 15–19)
Those who study Scripture with childlike faith and prayer find even hard passages explained by the Holy Spirit.
Only reverence for God makes the Word come alive and become understandable.

🔹 6. The Root of Unbelief (Paras. 20–22)
Behind many doubts lies a love of sin.
The heart resists God’s claims.
Yet whoever is willing to do God’s will will recognize the truth (John 7:17).

🔹 7. Proof through Experience (Paras. 23–25)
The strongest proof of God’s Word is personal experience:
“Taste and see that the LORD is good” (Psalm 34:9).
Those who test God’s promises will never be disappointed.

🔹 8. Continuing Deepening of Faith (Paras. 26–28)
Spiritual growth brings ever-clearer understanding:
“The path of the righteous is like the morning sun” (Proverbs 4:18).
God combines His divine power with our humanity to teach us continuously.

🔹 9. The Unfolding of the Previously Unintelligible (Paras. 29–30)
What once seemed dark becomes clear in His presence.
One day we will know fully, “face to face” (1 Corinthians 13:12).

Doubts will come—but they need not remain.
The Bible holds mysteries, not to confuse us, but to inspire faith, wonder, and trust.
Those who approach Scripture in humility, prayer, and obedience will find deep assurance and insight.
The greatest confirmation is the testimony of personal experience with God.

In a world of skepticism, critical thinking, and so-called “scientific” doubt, it’s easy to give doubt a foothold.
But God’s Word stands reliable, profound, and true—across time and culture.

📜 “If anyone’s will is to do God’s will, he will know” (John 7:17).
📜 “Taste and see that the LORD is good” (Psalm 34:9).

👉 What does this mean for you?

• Don’t search first for explanations—search for God Himself.

• Let your pursuit be driven by a desire for truth, not intellectual pride.

• When doubt arises, go to Jesus, not to speculation.

• Read the Bible in prayer with an open heart—and it will come alive to you.

God is not distant—His Word is living and powerful for everyone who seeks it with an open heart
