๐Ÿ‘‘ 2 Samuel Chapter 5 โ€“ David Becomes King Over All Israel

โœจ When God’s time has come

๐ŸŒ… Introduction

David had waited a long time.
He had still been a shepherd boy when Samuel anointed him king.
He had defeated giants, fled, hidden, lost friends โ€“ and lived through many hard years.
And still he had trusted God.
He had never made himself king.
He had waited โ€“ for the moment that God had appointed.

Now the time had finally come.

๐Ÿ“– The Biblical Story

After the death of Ish-Bosheth, the tribes of Israel knew that no one could rule better than David.
They remembered:
David had already led Israel as a young soldier back then.
He had not only been courageous โ€“ he had trusted God. And God was with him.

So the elders of all the tribes came to Hebron.
They stood before David and said:
โ€œWe belong to you. You are our own flesh and blood.
Even when Saul was still king, you led our people.
And now the Lord has said: You shall be shepherd over all Israel โ€“ and our king!โ€

David looked at them.
He remembered everything that lay behind him:
the time among the sheep, Goliath, Saul, the long years of running away.
And now he stood there โ€“ ready.
Not proud, but grateful.

In Hebron David made a covenant with the elders.
He promised to lead the people with justice.
And then they anointed him king over all Israel.

He was now 30 years old โ€“ and ready to lead the people of God.

But David still had something important in mind:
He wanted a new capital โ€“ a place that belonged to everyone.

So he set out with his men toward Jerusalem.
At that time the Jebusites lived there, and they believed no one could take their city.
They shouted:
โ€œEven the blind and the lame could defend our walls!โ€

But David was not intimidated.
He knew God’s help โ€“ and he knew that this place was important for the whole people.
With courage and a good strategy, David conquered the city.

He made Jerusalem the City of David.
He built houses, walls, and palaces.
And God was with him โ€“ step by step.

The people in Israel saw that God had blessed David.
He was not a king like the others.
He was a king who honored God, who listened to Him โ€“ and who knew whom he owed everything to.

๐ŸŸฃ Summary

David finally becomes king โ€“ not only over Judah, but over all Israel.
The elders recognize: God has chosen him.
David conquers Jerusalem and makes the city the capital.
He begins a new chapter as king โ€“ with God’s help.

Sometimes we wait a long time for something.
We ask ourselves: โ€œWhy is this taking so long?โ€
David could have taken many shortcuts.
But he trusted God โ€“ and did not take the crown for himself.
