🏹 2 Kings Chapter 13 – A Half Strike

πŸ™ When halfhearted faith does not receive everything

πŸŒ… Introduction

Have you ever done something only halfway?

Only half cleaned your room?
Only half listened?
Only half trusted?

Sometimes we try β€”
but not completely.

In chapter 13 we see a king
who asks God for help β€”
but not truly with all his heart.

And we learn:
God helps.
But our trust makes a difference.

πŸ“– The Biblical Story

πŸ“– A New King – Old Mistakes

After the death of Jehu, his son Jehoahaz became king over Israel.

But Jehoahaz made the same mistakes as many kings before him.

He did not serve the Lord faithfully.
He allowed the false idols to remain in the land.

Because of this, Israel fell into great trouble.

The king of Aram attacked again and again.
Israel became weak.
Many soldiers were lost.

The people suffered.

πŸ™ A Cry to God

But in his distress Jehoahaz did something right:

He pleaded with the Lord.

And do you know what?

God heard him.

Although Jehoahaz had not been faithful,
God saw the suffering of His people.

He gave Israel a deliverer.
And for a time they had peace.

But β€”
they did not truly change their hearts.

The false idols remained.
Their obedience remained halfhearted.

πŸ‘‘ Another King

After Jehoahaz, his son Joash became king.

At the same time Elisha, the prophet of God,
became very sick.

He had grown old.
His time was coming to an end.

King Joash came to him
and wept.

He said the same words
that Elisha had once cried for Elijah:

β€œMy father!
The chariots of Israel and its horsemen!”

The king knew:
Elisha was more important than a whole army.

🏹 The Strange Command with the Arrow

Elisha said to Joash:

β€œGet a bow and arrows.”

The king did.

Elisha put his hands on the king’s hands
and said:

β€œOpen the window to the east.”

Joash opened it.

β€œShoot!” said Elisha.

The king shot.

Elisha explained:

β€œThis is the Lord’s arrow of victory!
You will defeat Aram.”

Then Elisha said:

β€œTake the arrows
and strike the ground.”

Joash struck.
Once.
Twice.
Three times.

Then he stopped.

Elisha became angry.

β€œYou should have struck five or six times!
Then you would have completely defeated Aram.
Now you will defeat them only three times.”

Why was Elisha sad?

Because Joash trusted only halfway.
Was only halfway determined.
Only halfway believed.

⚰️ One Last Miracle

Elisha died.

He was buried.

But even after his death
something amazing happened.

One day men were carrying a dead man for burial.

Suddenly enemy troops approached.

In a hurry they threw the body
into Elisha’s grave.

When the body touched Elisha’s bones,
something incredible happened:

The man came back to life
and stood up!

Even after his death
God worked through Elisha.

βš”οΈ Three Victories – No More

And just as Elisha had said,
King Joash defeated the Arameans.

Once.
Twice.
Three times.

But not completely.

Halfhearted effort
led to a half victory.

🟣 Summary

Jehoahaz called to God β€”
but did not fully change his heart.

Joash received a clear promise from God β€”
but acted only halfheartedly.

God gave help.
But it was limited.

And we see:

God is gracious.
But halfhearted faith misses blessings.

πŸ’š Message for Children Today

If you trust God β€”
then do it completely.

Not just a little.
Not only when it is easy.

God delights in trust.
In courage.
In determination.

Do not strike only three times β€”
when God wants to give you courage.

Give Him your whole heart.
