Sometimes a great story begins very quietly—with a woman who is sad because she cannot have a child. That is exactly how the adventure of Samson begins, a boy who was chosen by God even before he was born.
Judges 13 is full of surprises, meetings with angels, and the warm message:
God sees us—even when everything looks impossible.
📖 The Bible story
🌑 A dark time for Israel
It was a hard time for the people of Israel.
The Philistines—strong, cruel enemies—had oppressed them for forty years 😟.
The people were afraid, tired, and didn’t know what to do anymore.
But deep in this dark time, God was quietly preparing a light. ✨
🤱 A woman with a great sorrow
In the small town of Zorah lived a man named Manoah and his wife.
She was a kind, gentle woman—but very sad.
She could not have children.
Holding little babies, hearing happy laughter, having a family—all of that was denied to her.
But God had not forgotten her. 💗
👼 The angel comes – a wonderful message
One day, while she was all alone in the field 🌾, a man suddenly appeared before her, whose face shone like light.
She was frightened, because he looked like an angel—and he was! 😮✨
The angel said:
“You will have a son. He will belong to God from the very beginning. You must take good care of yourself during the pregnancy—no wine, no unclean food. And never cut the child’s hair. He will be a special boy. God will use him to free Israel from the Philistines.”
The woman could hardly believe what she heard.
A baby?
She—a mother?
God?
It felt like a dream.
She ran to Manoah at once:
“A man of God came to me! He looked like an angel! And he said… we will have a son!” 👶✨
🙏 Manoah asks God for help
Manoah really wanted to know how they should raise this special child.
So he prayed:
“Lord, please send the man again so he can show us what we should do.”
And God listened.
The angel came back—again to the woman in the field.
She ran to Manoah:
“He is back! Hurry!” 🏃♂️💨
🐐 A mysterious guest
Manoah asked the angel:
“What should we do? How should we raise him?”
The angel answered kindly but seriously:
“Just do everything I told your wife.”
Manoah wanted to offer the angel some food 🐐🔥—he did not know it was an angel.
But the angel said:
“If you offer something, offer it to the Lord.”
Then something very special happened:
When the fire of the offering began to blaze 🔥, the angel went up into heaven in the middle of the flame!
Manoah and his wife fell to the ground—full of awe. 🙇♂️🙇♀️
Manoah became afraid:
“We have seen God! We will die!” 😨
But his wife calmed him:
“If God wanted to kill us, He would not have accepted our offering. He has promised us something wonderful.”
👶✨ The miracle child is born
And so it happened:
The woman had a son.
She named him Samson.
Samson grew up—strong, healthy, and full of life.
And God’s Spirit began to stir in him.
It was as if God put His hand on Samson’s shoulder and said:
“I am with you. You will do something great.” 💪✨
The story of perhaps the strongest man in the Bible had begun.

Israel suffered under the Philistines.
Through an angel, God announced the birth of a special child: Samson.
He was to belong to God from the very beginning and later free Israel.
His birth was a miracle—a sign that God gives hope even in hard times.

👉 Nothing is impossible for God—He can give life where we only see emptiness.
