📍 Introduction
After the long speeches of Job, his friends, and Elihu, something unexpected happens: God himself speaks. Yet he does not answer Job’s questions directly. Instead, he leads Job through the wonders of creation and asks him a series of profound questions. Job chapter 38 shows that the greatest answer to human doubt is not always an explanation, but an encounter with the living God.

🧵 Commentary
The Lord answers Job from within a storm. This appearance alone makes it clear that God speaks in absolute majesty. His first question is: “Who is this that obscures my plans with words without knowledge?” God does not reject Job, but he makes him aware of how limited human knowledge truly is.
God then begins to ask Job questions. Where was Job when God laid the foundations of the earth? Who determined its dimensions? Who set its foundations in place? Through these images, God reminds him that creation came into existence solely through his will and wisdom.
God then directs Job’s attention to the sea. He describes how he set boundaries for it and commanded it not to advance any farther. Even the mighty forces of nature remain under his authority.
God continues by speaking of the morning light that drives away the darkness, the depths of the sea, the gates of death, and the vast expanses of the earth. Each question makes it clear that God’s knowledge is infinite, while human beings can perceive only a small part of reality.
The images taken from nature are especially impressive. God asks about the storehouses of snow and hail, the paths of lightning, and the origins of rain, dew, ice, and the constellations. Everything obeys his command and follows the order he established.
Finally, God directs Job’s attention to the animal world. He provides food for the lions, satisfies the hunger of the young ravens, and sustains even those creatures that human beings hardly notice. Nothing lies beyond his care.
It is remarkable that God gives Job no explanation for his personal suffering. Instead, he reveals his character as the all-wise Creator. The message is clear: if God governs the entire universe with perfect wisdom, then human beings may trust him even when they do not understand his ways.
Job chapter 38 invites us not to place our questions above the greatness of God. The Lord is greater than every unresolved problem. Those who encounter him discover that trust is often more important than receiving complete answers.
