✨ A Girl in the Royal Palace
🌅 Introduction
After the great feast in the palace of Susa, much time had passed. The music had long since faded, the guests had returned to their homes, and the excitement about Queen Vashti already belonged to the past.
But in the royal palace, one thing remained unchanged: the place of the queen was empty.
King Ahasuerus sometimes thought about the events that had led to this. His advisers noticed it and began looking for a solution. Soon a plan emerged that would change the lives of many young women.
At the same time, a Jewish girl named Esther lived in Susa. She led a quiet life and took care of her daily tasks. No one would have suspected that one day she would become one of the most important women in the whole empire.
But great stories often begin very quietly.
📖 The Biblical Story
🏛️ A Search Throughout the Whole Empire
The king’s advisers suggested searching for young women throughout the Persian Empire. From all the provinces, the most beautiful girls were to be brought to Susa. There they would live in the palace and be prepared for an encounter with the king.
The king liked this proposal. Soon officials set out on their way. They traveled through cities and villages, over mountains and across wide plains. Everywhere they searched for young women who were to come to the palace.
The news spread quickly. Many families talked about it. Some were curious, others surprised. No one knew which young woman would finally become queen.
While the search grew larger and larger, Esther had no idea that her name too would soon be mentioned.
👧 Esther and Mordecai
Esther was a young Jewish girl. Her parents had died when she was still small. Therefore, her cousin Mordecai had taken her in and raised her like a daughter.
Mordecai cared for her lovingly. He protected her, gave her advice, and helped her when she had questions. There was a close bond between the two of them.
Esther was not only beautiful, but also kind and humble. She treated other people with respect and listened attentively. Many liked her because she did not have a proud heart.
When the king’s officials searched for young women, Esther too was chosen and brought to the palace.
For the young girl, a completely new stage of life began. She had to leave her familiar home and go to a place she had previously known only from stories.
🌸 A New Life Behind Palace Walls
In the palace, the young women were cared for by a man named Hegai. He was responsible for making sure everything was prepared.
When Hegai met Esther, he quickly noticed her kind manner. He treated her with special attention and made sure she received everything she needed.
Day by day, Esther got to know life at the royal court. Everything was different from before. The great halls, the many servants, the magnificent rooms, and the strict rules surely impressed her deeply.
Despite all these changes, Esther remained the same. She did not become proud and did not try to make herself more important than others.
Mordecai often thought about her. Almost every day he came near the palace to find out how Esther was doing. He could not simply visit her, but he wanted to know whether she was well.
He also gave her important advice: for the time being, she should not tell anyone that she belonged to the Jewish people.
Esther listened to him and kept this secret.
⏳ A Long Time of Waiting
The months passed. Each young woman was carefully prepared for the meeting with the king. It was a long time full of expectations and questions.
Some may have dreamed of becoming queen. Others were nervous and did not know what the future would bring.
Esther too had to wait.
But instead of constantly worrying, she trusted the people responsible for her. She gratefully accepted what was given to her and did not try to put herself at the center.
Through this, she gained the sympathy of many people in the palace.
Without realizing it, she left a good impression everywhere.
👑 The Meeting with the King
Finally, the day came for which so many had been waiting.
Now Esther was to be presented to the king.
For a young girl, this must have been an exciting moment. Before her lay an encounter that could change her entire life.
When Esther was led to the king, she took nothing extraordinary with her. She trusted Hegai’s advice and appeared humbly before Ahasuerus.
The king looked carefully at the young woman.
Perhaps he noticed her kindness. Perhaps her calm manner stood out to him. Perhaps it was the special radiance that many people had already seen in her.
Whatever the reason, Esther won the king’s heart more than all the other women.
From that moment on, it was clear that something extraordinary would happen.
💎 Esther Becomes Queen
Finally, King Ahasuerus made his decision.
Out of all the young women, he chose Esther.
He placed the royal crown on her head and made her the new queen of the Persian Empire.
For Esther, this moment must have been almost impossible to grasp. Only a short time earlier she had lived with Mordecai. Now she sat in the royal palace and wore the crown of a queen.
To celebrate this event, the king held a great feast. Many people rejoiced over the new queen.
But no one knew why God had led Esther to this exact place.
The most important task of her life still lay ahead of her.
🕵️ A Secret Is Written Down
One day, Mordecai heard something disturbing at the gate of the palace. Two of the king’s servants were secretly planning something evil.
They had become angry and wanted to harm the king.
Mordecai immediately understood how dangerous this was. Therefore, he had Esther informed about it. The queen told the king, and the matter was investigated.
Soon it became clear that Mordecai had told the truth.
The king was saved.
Afterward, everything was carefully recorded in the royal chronicles. It was an important report, but at first no one seemed to pay special attention to it.
The scroll was put away, and life went on.
But sometimes things are written down whose meaning is understood only much later.
🌟 God Is Preparing Something
At the end of this chapter, everything seems calm. Esther has become queen. Mordecai has helped the king. The palace is full of peace.
But behind the walls of Susa, the next chapter of the story is already being prepared.
God has led Esther to a special place. She does not yet know why. No one yet recognizes the whole plan.
But God sees farther than human beings can see.
While Esther learns to live as queen and Mordecai continues to carry out his service faithfully, the events are already being prepared that will affect the fate of an entire people.
The story has only just begun.

This chapter shows that God often prepares people before they know their actual task. Esther did not know why she became queen, but God already had a plan.
Mordecai’s example also reminds us how important faithfulness is. His attentiveness and honesty would later play a great role.
