🌅 Devotional for the Day
The cry of the redeemed at the Second Coming of Jesus is filled with wonder, joy, and assurance: “Behold, this is our God.” These words are not the reaction of people who are suddenly confronted by an unknown being. They are the words of people who have hoped, believed, prayed, and waited for a long time. They recognize the coming Lord. In His glory they do not see a stranger, but the God to whom they entrusted their lives.
This recognition is precious. Today, God’s people live by faith. We do not see Christ with our eyes, but we know Him through His Word. We recognize His love at the cross. We experience His patience in our weakness. We see His guidance, sometimes clearly and sometimes hidden. We hold fast to His promises even when their fulfillment is still ahead of us. But when Jesus returns, faith will become sight. Then the heart will say: This is He. This is my Redeemer. This is my God.
Isaiah describes a hope that has been sustained through waiting. Twice we read: “we have waited for him.” This shows that the joy of the redeemed has a history behind it. They have not merely experienced one moment, but have walked a long road. They hoped when it was dark. They hoped when prayers still seemed unanswered. They hoped when the world mocked God’s promises. They hoped because God’s Word was stronger than what they could see.
On that day, this hope will be confirmed. No trust placed in Christ will have been in vain. No quiet prayer will have been meaningless. No tear of faith will have been forgotten. The redeemed will not say: We were mistaken. They will say: This is our God. He has kept what He promised. He has helped. He has saved. He has carried us all the way to this day.
The cry “Behold, this is our God” is also an expression of personal relationship. The redeemed do not merely say: This is God. They say: This is our God. He does not belong to them in the sense of human possession, but they belong to Him through the covenant of His grace. He created them, redeemed them, guided them, and preserved them. They accepted Him as their Lord, and now they see Him as their coming King. The Second Coming of Jesus is therefore not only an event of power, but also a day of recognition.
✨ The God We Have Trusted
It is easy to trust God when everything is bright and understandable. It is harder to hold on to Him when the path becomes dark, answers do not come, and the heart grows weary. Yet it is precisely in waiting that deep faith grows. The redeemed have learned to value God’s character more highly than their changing circumstances. They have hoped because God is faithful.

“Soon the heavens will open and our Savior will appear. No human eye will miss this sight.”

When the Savior appears, God’s people will recognize that every promise was true. The heavens will open, and the waiting church will not be left in uncertainty. They will see their Lord and joyfully confess: This is our God.
🌿 Hope That Becomes Joy
Isaiah connects the recognition of God with rejoicing: “We will be glad and rejoice in his salvation.” The joy of the redeemed is not superficial. It comes out of a history of salvation. It comes from forgiveness, preservation, patience, and redemption. It is the joy of people who know that they did not reach the goal by their own strength, but through God’s grace.
This joy begins already today. Even though we do not yet see Jesus, we may rejoice in His salvation. We may know: God is not against us, but for us in Christ. He is not leading us into emptiness, but toward completion. His help may sometimes look different from what we expected, but it is real. The day will come when we look back and recognize how faithfully He carried us.
🕊️ Saying “Our God” Already Today
The cry of the redeemed on the day of the Second Coming does not begin only in the future. It is prepared in the heart today. Whoever wants to say then, “This is our God,” may learn today to say, “You are my God.” Not only with words, but with trust, surrender, and obedience. Faith recognizes God as Lord even now, before the eyes see His glory.
Perhaps your path today is still full of unanswered questions. Perhaps you do not understand everything God allows. Perhaps you are waiting for help, clarity, or comfort. Then you may hold on to Isaiah 25:9. The day will come when God’s help will become visible. The day will come when the redeemed will no longer need to ask whether their hope was right. They will see, rejoice, and say: This is our God.
The Second Coming of Jesus will be the day of fulfilled hope. The Lord whom we love by faith will appear visibly. The God in whom we have trusted will reveal His salvation. The Redeemer for whom we waited will come. Therefore God’s people may already live today with a calm heart: our hope will not be disappointed. Soon we will say: Behold, this is our God.
🙏 Prayer
Dear Father in Heaven,
thank You for the hope that one day we will see Jesus and be able to recognize: This is our God.
Help me to trust You today even when I cannot yet see or understand everything.
Strengthen my hope when the waiting becomes long, and protect my heart from weariness and doubt.
Let me live by Your grace already today and confess You as my God.
Prepare me for the day when my faith will become sight and I will rejoice in Your salvation.
Amen.

The redeemed will not see the coming Christ as a stranger, but as the God in whom they trusted and for whose salvation they hoped.

Where do you need fresh hope today so that you can trust God even while you wait? - Pray: “My God, help me to trust You today until I see You in glory.”
- Practical: Write down or consciously say a sentence of trust today: “You are my God, and I hope in Your salvation.”
