π«οΈ How small disturbances change the balance of the body.
πͺοΈ 6.Why stress is not loudβbut constant
π― Key Message
The most dangerous stress is not the intense kindβbut the kind that never fully disappears.
βοΈ Explanation
When people think of stress, they usually imagine extreme situations: time pressure, conflicts, overload.
But the body does not only distinguish between βa lotβ and βa littleβ stress. What matters is whether the system can return to rest.
Chronic stress is rarely intense. It is subtle.
It appears as constant inner tension, as a low-level activation that never fully fades.
The nervous system remains in a state of increased readiness. Not enough to trigger an alarmβbut enough to prevent regeneration.
The problem: this state often feels normal.
Not because it is healthy, but because it has become constant.
π Did you know?
The body can remain in βalarm modeβ for a long timeβwithout you consciously perceiving it as stress.
π¬ Scientific Insight
Chronic stress permanently activates the so-called hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis (HPA axis). As a result, cortisol is continuously released.
In the short term, cortisol supports adaptation and performance. In the long term, however, chronically elevated activity can lead to disturbances in the immune system, metabolism, and hormonal balance.
Research findings, including those from the National Institutes of Health, show that it is not the intensity of individual stress events that is decisive, but the lack of a phase of complete recovery.
Stress becomes a problem when it has no end.
π Quote
βCare, fear, discontent, remorse, guilt, distrust, all tend to break down the life forces and to invite decay and death.β
β Ellen G. White, The Ministry of Healing, chapter βMind Cureβ
β Application
π Observe not only stress, but also recovery.
The decisive question is not: How much stress do I have?
But: Do I truly return to rest?
β¨ Bible Verse
βCome to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.β (Matthew 11:28)
