📖 1 Kings Chapter 17 – Elijah Trusts God
🌧️ No Rain – And Yet Enough
🌅 Introduction
What happens when God says:
“Now it’s over – no more rain”?
How do you survive when no water flows and there is no bread left?
This story is about a brave man:
👉 Elijah.
He dares to tell the king the truth.
And then he experiences how God provides in amazing ways –
through animals, through people, and through a miracle.
📖 The Bible story
In Israel, King Ahab is now ruling.
He does not listen to God.
He has brought many idols into the land
and even built a temple for Baal.
So God sends a prophet: Elijah.
He stands before the king and says:
“As surely as the Lord lives –
there will no longer be any rain in this land
until I say so!”
Then Elijah disappears.
And just as he said:
The sky remains closed.
Weeks pass. Months. Everything becomes dry.
But God does not forget Elijah.
He speaks to him:
“Go to the Brook Cherith.
I will give you water.
And I will send ravens
to bring you bread and meat in the morning and in the evening.”
And that is exactly what happened.
🪶 Birds as a Delivery Service
Elijah went to the brook.
He drank water –
and every day ravens flew in!
In their beaks they carried pieces of bread and meat.
Every morning. Every evening.
God had a very special plan –
and Elijah trusted Him.
But one day even the brook dried up.
Not a single drop left. What now?
🫙 A Widow with a Miracle
God spoke to Elijah again:
“Get up and go to Zarephath.
A widow lives there.
I have told her to take care of you.”
So Elijah went on his way.
When he met the woman, he said:
“Please give me some water –
and a small piece of bread.”
The woman looked sad.
“I have almost nothing left,” she said.
“Only a handful of flour and a few drops of oil.
I was just about to bake the last bread for my son and me –
and then we will die.”
But Elijah said calmly:
“Don’t be afraid.
Bake something for me first –
for the Lord promises:
The flour will not run out,
and the oil will not fail –
until it rains again!”
And the woman obeyed.
She baked a small loaf for Elijah –
and look:
🍞 The flour did not run out.
🫙 The oil stayed in the jar.
Day after day she could bake.
God kept His promise.
Elijah, the widow, and her son had enough –
even though a terrible drought was outside.
🟣 Summary
Elijah speaks on God’s behalf.
He announces a great drought – and it stops raining.
But God provides for Elijah in miraculous ways:
🔹 through ravens that bring him food
🔹 through a widow who hardly has anything herself
And because they trust God, they experience this:
God’s promises hold true – even in difficult times.
💚 Message for Children Today
Even if you are in a difficult situation –
you can know: God can provide.
Sometimes in unusual ways.
Sometimes through other people.
But He sees you –
and you can trust Him.
If you are asked to give something,
