π Introduction
After King Josiah discovers the Book of the Law and renews the covenant with God, the next step follows. In 2 Chronicles 35, he invites the people to celebrate the Passover. This feast recalls Godβs deliverance of Israel from Egypt. But this time, it becomes a special highlight of Judahβs spiritual renewal.

𧡠Commentary
Josiah wants the renewal to consist of more than words. Therefore, he organizes a Passover according to the instructions written in Godβs law. The priests and Levites are prepared for their service and reminded of their duties. Everything is to be done in order and for the glory of God.
The king himself takes part generously in the preparations. He provides animals for the sacrifices so that as many people as possible can participate in the feast. Other leaders and officials also support the celebration with their gifts.
The Levites work carefully and help the people with the preparations. Everyone takes on their task so that the Passover can be celebrated according to Godβs order. This creates an atmosphere of unity and dedication.
What is special about this Passover is not only its size, but also its meaning. Chronicles reports that since the days of the prophet Samuel, no Passover like this had been celebrated. This shows how extraordinary this moment is. After many years of spiritual indifference, the people consciously return to God.
The celebration becomes an expression of gratitude and obedience. The people remember what God has done in the past and renew their trust in Him.
But the chapter does not end with the feast.
Some time later, the Egyptian king Necho passes through the land. Josiah decides to confront him. Necho even warns him and explains that this battle is not directed against Judah. But Josiah does not listen to this warning.
The battle of Megiddo takes place, and Josiah is seriously wounded. Shortly afterward, he dies.
His death deeply shakes the people. They mourn for a king who had led them back to God. Even the prophet Jeremiah composes laments for him.
The chapter therefore ends with a mixture of joy and sorrow. On the one hand, the great Passover stands as the highlight of Josiahβs life. On the other hand, his death reminds us how fragile even the best times can be.

Spiritual high points are valuable, but they do not replace daily dependence on God. Even people who faithfully serve God must remain willing to listen to His guidance.
