πΆ Poem 3 β The Road into Exile
π When Daniel Had to Leave His Homeland
The walls of Jerusalem silent stood,
bowed beneath the Highestβs will.
Its gates, once crowned with strength and splendor,
now watched over the darkened hill.
The streets lay empty, worn, and still;
the songs of triumph faded away.
Where joyful voices once had echoed,
grief and sorrow ruled the day.
The victors gathered through the land
captives of the royal line.
The strong, the wise, the gifted youth
were chosen for Babylonβs design.
They brought them all together there,
prepared to walk a distant road.
None knew what lay before their feetβ
only that farewell was their load.
Among them Daniel quietly stood,
ready to go where God would lead.
Hananiah walked beside him,
with Mishael and Azariah indeed.
They turned to look one final time
upon their homeland, dear and fair;
the hills, the fields, their homes, their childhood,
all they had cherished through the years.
Perhaps through tears young Daniel gazed
upon the holy temple hill.
Perhaps his heart remembered well
the city that he loved still.
The road led farther from that place,
away from Godβs appointed land.
Each step carried them farther still
from all they knew firsthand.
Before them stretched the unknown distance,
filled with darkness and uncertainty.
Behind them lay a treasured life,
their homeland lost to memory.
The blazing sun beat on the path
that crossed the lonely desert plain.
The days grew long, the miles grew hard,
and weary hearts endured the strain.
At night they lifted up their eyes,
where hope still lived beneath the stars.
The heavens over Judahβs hills
were the same above Babylon afar.
No temple stood beside the road;
no priest pronounced the sacred blessing.
Yet Godβs own eye remained upon them,
guiding every step and journey.
The Lord is never bound by walls,
nor by cities, lands, or place.
He is the same in every cornerβ
in royal courts and desert waste.
The young men slowly learned to trust
the guidance of their faithful Lord.
Their strength was not within themselves,
but in the everlasting God.
They heard of Babylonβs great fame,
its mighty walls and endless wealth,
its towering pride and dazzling glory,
its dreams of everlasting strength.
There new temptations waited for them,
subtle, difficult, and strong.
There it soon would be revealed
who remained faithful all along.
They did not know the journeyβs end,
nor yet could see hopeβs dawning light.
But God had long prepared the path
that would unfold before the king.
For in that distant foreign land
the Most High purposed to reveal
that His dominion fills the earth
and never bends to human will.
Day by day the journey itself
became a witness yet untold.
Not Babylon alone shaped historyβ
God Himself directed the world.
Daniel quietly guarded his heart,
though filled with homesickness and pain.
He knew that whatever lay ahead,
God would forever be the same.
Step by step the friends walked on,
and God’s own hand went on before.
Though unseen, He faithfully led them
to Babylon and what lay in store.
There they would stand before great kings
and witness heavenβs mysteries.
Yet all of it began upon
the road that God Himself had chosen.
The road into exile was long and hard,
accompanied by songs of grief.
Yet hidden behind every step
were Godβs own plans for days to come.
For often God in sovereign wisdom
leads us down unchosen ways.
What people see as only loss,
He turns into His greater plan.
So the little company journeyed on,
far from all they once had known.
Yet never far from Godβs own hand,
which held them through each coming trial.
And as Jerusalem disappeared,
beyond the desert, hills, and plains,
a new chapter quietly began,
through which God would accomplish mighty things.
π Prophetic Reflection
πΆ The road to Babylon was not merely a journey into captivity.
π It was also a journey into Godβs preparation.
π Daniel lost his homelandβbut he did not lose his faith.
β¨ Godβs end-time people must likewise learn to remain faithful to the Lord even when familiar securities disappear. For Godβs presence is not confined to one placeβHe goes wherever His children go.
