π Introduction
2 Chronicles 34 tells of King Josiah, one of Judahβs most faithful kings. Although he grows up in a time of spiritual decline, he decides early on to seek God. The chapter shows how an entire nation can be changed when people once again take Godβs Word seriously.

𧡠Commentary
Josiah becomes king at the age of eight. Despite his young age, he develops a heart that seeks after God. While many of his predecessors had forsaken the LORD, Josiah consciously seeks fellowship with God.
As he grows older, he begins to cleanse Judah and Jerusalem from the traces of idolatry. Altars of foreign gods are destroyed, idols are removed, and pagan places of worship are eliminated. Josiah is not satisfied with superficial changes. He wants the people to serve the LORD alone once again.
After the cleansing of the land has begun, his attention turns to the temple. The house of God had been neglected for years and urgently needed repairs. Josiah instructs those responsible to carry out the necessary work.
During the renovation, something unexpected happens.
The high priest Hilkiah finds the Book of the Law of the LORD. Apparently, Godβs Word had been forgotten or ignored for a long time. When the book is brought to Josiah and read to him, he reacts immediately.
He tears his clothes.
This action is a sign of deep distress. Josiah realizes how far the people have strayed from Godβs commandments. He understands that the warnings of the law do not concern only past generations, but also his own time.
Instead of ignoring or downplaying the words, Josiah seeks Godβs answer. He sends men to inquire about the will of God. The message is serious. God confirms that judgment will come upon Judah because the people have forsaken Him.
At the same time, however, Josiah receives a personal promise. Because his heart remained humble and he listened to Godβs Word, he will not live to see the coming disaster.
This answer moves him to act with even greater determination.
Josiah gathers the elders, the priests, and the people. Together they hear the words of the law. Then Josiah renews the covenant with God and commits himself to following the LORD with all his heart. The people join him in this decision.
The chapter ends with a people who once again hear and take Godβs Word seriously. True renewal does not begin with political reforms or military strength, but with an encounter with Godβs truth.

Solomonβs story shows that even great spiritual experiences do not make a person invulnerable.

𧡠Commentary
Solomon had not been a weak man. He had received wisdom like almost no one else. Yet his story proves precisely this: no one is safe when they stop depending on God.
His fall did not come suddenly. Small compromises prepared the way for greater unfaithfulness.
That is why Scripture repeatedly emphasizes watchfulness and prayer. People may have lived faithfully for many years and still fall when pride or self-confidence gains the upper hand.
The only security is not found in experience or knowledge, but in daily fellowship with God.
