๐ŸŒพ Ruth 4 โ€“ An Inheritance of Faithfulness โ€“ Ruthโ€™s Story Reaches Its Goal
โœจ How God weaves a future out of faithfulness โ€“ and brings forth a line of blessing out of pain

๐ŸŒ Read online here

๐Ÿ”ต Introduction

Welcome to our study of the final chapter in the book of Ruth.
Ruth 4 brings the story to a surprising and deeply moving conclusion. What began with loss, hunger, migration, and hopelessness ends with restoration, family, blessing โ€” and the beginning of a royal lineage.

In this chapter we see not only the conclusion of a love story, but above all the visible proof that God does not forget faithful hearts. It deals with legal matters, decisions, and cultural rituals โ€” but at the center stands Godโ€™s plan, which is greater than any human circumstance.

๐ŸŸก Commentary

Imagine this: the sun rises over Bethlehem. The streets are busy, but something special is happening at the city gate. Boaz โ€” a respected man, just, honorable, and wise โ€” sits down. He has a plan. And this plan will not only change Ruthโ€™s life, but the entire history of Israel.

The closer relative, who had the first right to redeem the inheritance, is summoned. Ten elders sit down โ€” they are witnesses. Boaz calmly explains the situation: Naomi is selling the field that belonged to her late husband. The relative agrees immediately โ€” until Boaz mentions the second condition: โ€œYou must also take Ruth the Moabite as your wife, to raise up offspring for the deceased.โ€

Suddenly everything changes. The man declines โ€” out of concern for his own inheritance. And so Boaz is free to do what he had already resolved in his heart: he will marry Ruth โ€” out of love, but also out of righteousness.

The agreement is made formally before the elders and all the people. An ancient custom is carried out: the man removes his sandal, a symbolic act of transferring the right of redemption.

And Boaz declares openly before everyone: โ€œYou are witnesses โ€” I have taken Ruth as my wife.โ€
A moment of honor. Nothing hidden. It is public, visible, and solemn.

The people bless the union. May Ruth be like Rachel and Leah โ€” mothers of Israel. May their house grow like that of Perez. Such words of blessing were not everyday phrases. They show how Boaz and Ruth have now become part of Godโ€™s story.

The narrative ends with the birth of a child. Ruth gives birth to Obed. Not just any child. Obed becomes the grandfather of David โ€” Israelโ€™s greatest king. And ultimately, it is through this line that Jesus Christ Himself is born.

And Naomi? The woman who once said, โ€œCall me Mara, for the Lord has made me bitter,โ€ now holds a child in her arms. Hope. Restoration. Joy.

๐Ÿ“ข Message for today

This chapter shows that Godโ€™s ways are not always spectacular โ€” but always sovereign. From seemingly ordinary decisions, from faithfulness in small matters, from courage in hard situations, God shapes history.

Ruth was a foreigner. Naomi was a widow with no prospects. Boaz was a man of justice. And God was the invisible director, bringing redemption out of human brokenness.

This story shows us:

๐Ÿ’ก Faithfulness is seen by God.
๐Ÿค Love and responsibility go hand in hand.
๐Ÿ‘‘ God builds His kingdom in ways we donโ€™t always understand โ€” but recognize in hindsight.
โœ๏ธ Jesus comes from this line โ€” because God includes people with open hearts in His plans.

๐Ÿ’ฌ Thought for the day

โ€œPerhaps your today seems insignificant.
Perhaps no one sees your obedience, your faithfulness, your perseverance.
But God sees. And from your today He can build a line that reaches into eternity.โ€

Question for today:
โžก๏ธ Am I willing to act faithfully โ€” even if I donโ€™t yet see the bigger picture?

โš”๏ธ Fighting for the Allies โ€“ The Rescue of Gibeon
God honors faithfulness, even when it becomes difficult

๐Ÿ”ต Introduction

The story of Gibeon does not end with the peace treaty. In the next chapter we see five Canaanite kings marching against Gibeon. The covenant is put to the test. Joshua must decide: Should he protect the people who once deceived him? He does โ€” and God stands behind him. A profound lesson on true loyalty.

๐ŸŸก Commentary

Gibeon was not an insignificant city. As a โ€œroyal cityโ€ with experienced warriors, it was a strategic key location. The fact that they chose not to fight but to submit to Israel and its God terrified the neighboring kings.
They form an alliance to punish Gibeon for its โ€œbetrayal.โ€ In their desperation, Gibeon sends a cry for help to Joshua โ€” the moment of truth has come.
Joshua could have withdrawn from responsibility. But he recognizes: a covenant is a covenant. This time he seeks Godโ€™s will โ€” and receives assurance: โ€œDo not fear โ€ฆ I have given them into your hand.โ€
With a night march Israel sets out, surprising the enemies at dawn. In the middle of the battle, God intervenes directly โ€” through a mighty hailstorm that kills more enemies than Israelโ€™s sword.
Faithfulness, even when it is difficult, is not only acknowledged by God but rewarded with His intervention.

๐ŸŸข Summary

Israel defends Gibeon despite the earlier deception. Godโ€™s approval is shown by His direct intervention. Faithfulness to a promise leads to divine protection.

๐Ÿ“ข Message for today

True faithfulness does not show when things are easy, but when it requires courage and perseverance. God honors faithfulness toward people and toward His will. In our relationships, in our families, in our spiritual lives โ€” genuine loyalty is a sign of spiritual maturity.
